A few weeks back I went on a marathon errand-running tour of some favorite local water-spots. This is the northern view of a swamp I've shared in a state of freshly fallen snowcover. Stopped amidst the errand quest in order to visit with a particular tree pairing I noticed on a previous (interim) visit.
Just a few days ago I spent time with a much larger example of a tree's wound sealing itself into a state resembling unwinding. The tree's form has turned itself nearly inside out in some places and the wooden...flexibility of this survival swerve left me awestruck in both cases. I don't know the species of either tree in the above pairing. But I spent some time standing there with the two of them. Not introducing or asking or announcing or seeking to touch - not anything but standing there and looking. Studying their immediate ecosystem with a softened gaze. soaking in a sense of community there - the essence of Place.
